Steampunk Rapunzel Script

Here it is. Not too much of a deviation from the original but I had to keep it high-view to fit it in 8 pages. I want the final vid to look like the intro to classic Disney movies with an old book opening and the narrator reading all the captions as they appear on the page/screen.

Rapunzel, A Steampunk Vision

 Page 1   Intro, the pregnant wife’s request for the rampion and the
          husband’s resolve to get it for her. The Enchantress’s house
          and the hovel of Rapunzel’s parents.

 1.1
 Establishing shot. Wide. The
 magnificent house of the
 Enchantress with its high
 wrought-iron fence contrasted
 with the hovel of Rapunzel’s
 parents
 Caption: There was once a man
 and his wife who, for some time,
 sought to have a child.
 1.2
 Medium shot. Wife looking out
 the window as the husband
 works in vain in their
 dead garden. She is visibly
 pregnant.
 Caption: At last, God granted
 their request. The husband loved
 his wife dearly, but could not
 provide for her.
 1.3
 Close up. Husband and wife
 stand at the wrought-iron
 fence, their shabby house in
 the background.
 Caption: She desired the
 delicacies of their neighbor’s
 garden.
 1.4
 Shot of the Enchantress’s
 abundant garden, filled
 with oversized and succulent
 plants.
 Caption: The man, because he loved
 his wife, would steal the rampion
 for her to eat.
 Page 2   That night, the Enchantress catches the husband in her
          garden and the deal is struck to give her the child in
          return for his life and that of his wife.

 the Enchantress. It is night
 time. He and the fence are
 silhouetted against the sky.
 He is wearing a "messenger
 bag."
 Caption: That night, the man
 entered the garden of the
 Enchantress to retrieve some
 of the coveted rampion for his
 pregnant wife.
 2.2
 Medium shot. Husband gathering
 vegetables and filling the
 bag. He is looking up and
 seeing the Enchantress as her
 silhouette fills the side of
 the frame. He is startled.
 THE ENCHANTRESS
 How dare you steal from me? What
 is the meaning of this?
 2.3
 Medium shot. The Enchantress
 holding the husband by his
 hair. He is powerless against
 her magical strength. She
 stares down at him menacingly.
 THE HUSBAND
 P-P-Please, Madame. My wife is
 with child and I can give her no
 food. If she doesn’t eat, she will
 surely die.
 2.4
 Full shot. Head to toe. The
 husband cowers on his knees
 in front of the Enchantress
 as she towers over him.
 THE ENCHANTRESS
 Your wife shall eat her fill from
 my garden. But I require life in
 exchange for life.
 2.5
 The husband carrying home
 a large bag brimming with
 delicious vegetables for his
 wife. He is sad.
 2.6
 Medium shot. The husband and
 wife in tears as he breaks the
 news.
 Caption: In exchange for her
 generosity, the Enchantress took
 their child the moment she was
 born.
 Page 3   Years later, the Enchantress has recognized Rapunzel as the
          most beautiful girl in the land and locked her in a clock
          tower.

 costume and her surroundings.

 Long shot. The clocktower.
 Day. Rapunzel still standing
 in the window.
 Caption: For fear that she would
 be taken away for her beauty, the
 Enchantress locked her high in a
 clocktower, deep in the Forest.

 Extreme wide. "Skyline" of the
 forest with the clocktower in
 the distance.
 Caption: Rapunzel knew nothing but
 her prison.
 Page 4   The Prince, wandering in the forest, hears the most
          beautiful song he’s ever heard. He is drawn to the giant
          clocktower. He watches as the Enchantress comes to visit

 his horse in the Forest.
 Introduces the Prince. He’s
 riding forward with a slight
 inclining of his ear to the
 air, listening.

 grace his ears.

 Close up. The Prince staring
 up in awe at the beauty of
 Rapunzel.
 Caption: It was there that he
 spied the beauty of Rapunzel and
 he desired her more than all else
 in his Kingdom.
 4.3
 The Enchantress approaches and
 calls to Rapunzel. The Prince
 watches carefully, hidden in
 the nearby thornbushes.
 THE ENCHANTRESS
 Rapunzel, Rapunzel. Let down your
 hair.
 4.4
 Rapunzel letting down her
 hair. Tall, skinny panel.
 Caption: As she did when her
 godmother called, Rapunzel let
 down her enchanted locks.
 4.5
 The Prince watches as the
 Enchantress ascends. He is
 in awe, eyes wide.
 THE PRINCE
 (Thinking) Strange is the road to
 the lovely Rapunzel.
 Page 5   The Prince, desiring to meet Rapunzel, waits until the
          Enchantress descends and leaves. He tries his luck with the
          call of the Enchantress. Rapunzel’s hair is lowered to him

 The Prince at the bottom
 of the tower calling up to
 Rapunzel to let down her hair.
 The Enchantress is silhouetted
 on the horizon, disappearing
 into the Forest.

 his luck with the phrase.          

 THE PRINCE
 Rapunzel, Rapunzel. Let down your
 hair.
 5.2
 Interior. Full shot. Large
 panel. The Prince enters

 the room atop the tower to
 a surprised Rapunzel. They
 are both captivated with one
 another.
 Caption: The young lovers are at
 once captivated with one another.
 5.3
 Extreme wide panel. Two shot.
 The two sit in the tower as
 the sun goes down outside the
 window. They hold hands and
 stare intently at one another.
 Caption: Before the evening was
 spent, Rapunzel and the Prince had
 fallen in love.
 5.4
 Medium shot. The Prince
 descending from the window
 as Rapunzel looks on.
 THE PRINCE
 I will return tomorrow before this
 clock strikes noon. We shall be
 married and you will come live
 with me.
 5.5
 Close up on Rapunzel. Her
 eyes fill with tears as she
 stares after the Prince. She
 is smiling for the first time.
 Page 6   The witch comes before the Prince and Rapunzel is surprised
          to see her instead of the Prince. The Enchantress, realizing
          the girl’s mistake cuts Rapunzel’s hair and banishes her

 tower. The Enchantress calling
 up to Rapunzel in the tower.
 Though Rapunzel does not know
 it is her godmother and not
 her true love.
 THE ENCHANTRESS

 hair.
 6.2
 Full shot. The Enchantress
 stands in the window sill.
 Rapunzel stands facing the
 camera with back to window.
 RAPUNZEL
 Where are you taking me my love?
 6.3
 Medium shot. Rapunzel turns
 around and is frightened by
 the site of her godmother.
 Caption: With one look, the
 Enchantress knew that her Rapunzel
 was in love.
 6.4
 The Enchantress grabs a
 handful of Rapunzel’s hair
 and produces a large scissors.
 THE ENCHANTRESS
 You dare cross me, the one who
 raised you!
 6.5
 The Enchantress banishes
 Rapunzel to live in squalor
 in the Forest.
 Page 7   The Prince ascends later that day and to his horror is met
          with the Enchantress who tells him that he will never see
          his true love again. She blasts him from the top of the

 Enchantress pounces, coming
 face to face with him.

 The Enchantress blasts the
 Prince in the face with steam
 from a hose.

 Ext. The Prince falling
 backward out of the window.
 A wing is broken and there
 is steam coming out of the
 window.
 THE PRINCE
 Gaaargh!
 Page 8   The Prince wanders in the forest blindly until he hears
          again the song that drew him. He is reunited with Rapunzel
          and her tears at finding him renew his sight. They live

 Ext. Wide shot. The Prince,
 wrapped in a cloak, wandering
 in the Forest with a stick
 outstretched in front of him.
 Caption: The Prince, far from
 home, sustained himself on the
 produce of the Forest.

 head pointing up in the air.
 He has stopped in his tracks.
 He is weather-worn, unshaven
 and dirty.
 Caption: One day, the Prince again
 heard the beautiful sound that had
 led him to his love, nearly one
 year ago.

 Wide shot. The Prince, back
 to camera, approaching a small
 cottage. The windows are open.
 8.4
 The money shot. Reunion
 between the two young lovers.
 Rapunzel in tears, hair
 shortened, embraces her love.
 Caption: The tears of true love
 fell on the Prince’s eyes and they
 were healed.

 Wide shot. The two lovers
 embrace in silhouette against
 the sunset.
 Caption: Reunited, Rapunzel and
 the Prince lived happily ever
 after.
