Tired of the old stuff, let the new stuff begin

Recently I had some time so I updated the site with some useful stuff. “What kind of stuff?” you ask in amazement and wonder. Well the kind of stuff that shows that sometimes, I scrape out time to actually do things artistically. Well… at least do things. “Artistically” remains in the eye of the beholder.
So now you’ll find my animation gallery and an image gallery on the sidebar of this blog, an “about me” (in case anyone cares) as well as some other things.
Later.
Steamo Superman

The results from the contest haven’t been posted yet, but I wanted to get this up for anyone who cares to comment. I’ll put up a link when the results are up.
Since I’ve been on this recent steampunk kick, I thought I’d try it for the good ol’ American boyscout. Also as you may have noticed if you are in the know, I’ve dropped the favored “steamy” adjective for “steamo.” I didn’t want the kind of traffic that would be fostered by a title like “Steamy Superman.” Just a lot of bad mental pictures.
Superman’s (not) dead!
Contrary to the Our Lady Peace lyrics, Superman is not dead. In fact, I just entered a contest over at Project Rooftop to redesign the Man of Steel’s costume. Results will be in next week and I’ll post my full entry after the contest. In the meantime, here’s a small taste.

More from CHatIG
Here’s another main character from Calvin Hedge and the Iron Golem, a chap named Barnaby. He’s a misunderstood inventor who’s come across a terrible secret. Now he’s on the run and in his absence, his son Calvin is heading down a dangerous road.

Bastian Kane Finito
I finished up Bastian Kane’s pencils yesterday. I apologize for the watermarks, but after reading Jared’s post, I got a little more conscientious of copyright stuff.
Calvin Hedge and the Iron Golem is a script I’m working on. It’s pseudo-steampunk, although I’m not sure how I feel about the subculture becoming so mainstream. It is a bit of a two-edged sword. There’s the danger of over-saturation, but references are more readily available. I won’t be using Victorian-era English in the story, just a bit of Jules Verne infusion. I’m in a bit of a holding pattern on the writing, but wanted to figure out what the characters were all about. Bastian pilots a giant steam-powered robot… er… Golem.
Visually I’m trying to land somewhere between great exaggeration and mood of Skottie Young and the amazing simplicity of Sean Galloway, but still infuse my own style. I’ve got a ways to go, but plenty of characters on which to experiment.

Comic Art
Here’s something I worked on a while ago. I’ve got a way to go before I could do this professionally, but it got me excited to do comics again. Of course, I gotta get to writing my story.

The boy, again

Family
Here are some recent pics of little man. We took a walk saw some “gucks” driving down the road, picked some of his Mom’s flowers and said “WOW!” a lot. This kid loves to be outside. Oh and for a snack we had a mouth full of dirt. Good protein.

Synced up
Finally got my Facebook page synced up with WordPress. Since I’m finally posting here more regularly, it just made sense. I’ve got a bit of a project in the works. Nothing major but I should be able to show the finished drawings next week sometime. In the meantime, here’s a preview.

I’ll post the final scans when they’re done.
Calvin
These are a couple roughs of Calvin. I am definitely not done refining this li’l guy. After finishing Bastian’s costume, I’ve gotten some fresh ideas that I want to implement. So I’ll be revisiting him soon.

Emo who?
